What makes Our School Great?
North Vancouver Distributed Learning School staff worked carefully to develop the goals that we have outlined for the 2016 - 2017 school year. We first started by examining our strengths and then looking at areas that could require further development for our school. During our strength analysis, we asked our staff and community members the essential question: What qualities make our school great? From this starting point, we came up with the following qualities:
- innovative, flexible, and adaptable staff and programs
- strong culture of teamwork and collaboration
- focus on success for all students
- fostering a sense of belonging and community
Areas For Further Development
After examining the strengths of our school, we then looked at our school vision, which is to provide all students with flexible, innovative, personalized pathways to graduation through interactive and engaging online experiences. With this vision in mind, we asked ourselves how can we further our realization of this vision and by doing so, better meet the individual needs of our students? After collaboration and consultation we developed two goals for the coming year that will help NVDL further realize our vision.
Our first goal focuses on communication. Specifically, we want to increase our focus on ongoing and meaningful communication between DL staff, DL students, DL parents, DL admin, and mainstream schools (admin, teachers, Choices teams, LAC staff). Our second goal focuses on curriculum development and student engagement. With this in mind, we want to work with the transformed curriculum to create engaging and authentic student learning experiences and new courses. We believe that growth in both of these areas will support successful course completion, help students meet graduation requirements, and better meet the needs of our students and their surrounding communities.

Where to now?
The goals discussed above will help drive a great deal of our NVDL professional development and focus this year. School staff plan to communicate out our progress towards these goals by updating this website with new and innovative ideas and artifacts related to our communication, curriculum development, and student engagement goals. We would also like to invite all of our community members, such as students, parents, and other teachers, to use this site to share their thoughts as the year goes on. Please feel free to comment on the goals or ideas shared in this site by leaving a comment in the comment section of each goal or by sharing your thoughts next time you visit the the DL Centre!
